King & Parsley Best of the West

Texas East Gymnastics’ Steelie King and Macy Parsley traveled to Boise, Idaho for the Level 9 Western Championships. This competition is the culminating meet at for all level 9 gymnasts west of the Mississippi plus Wisconsin.

Steelie and Macy both proved that all the attention to detail and hours of training over the last year paid off; Steelie placed 10th in the All Around, 10th on Bars and 9th on Vault. Macy captured the Silver Medal on Bars and 16th on Floor. Additionally the girls were able to tour Boise State as well as meet with other college coaches in attendance scouting future team members

Coach Parsley said, “gymnastics is a journey and this level is a stop along the way but certainly not the destination for these girls. Both have unique talents and a lot of heart.”

Texas East Gymnasts Level 6 & 8 State Champions and Regional Qualifiers

The Level 8 team from TEG competed in their State championships and earned prized positions to the Level 8 Regional Championships in Loveland, Colorado. Libby Thornbourgh (Longview), Samantha Proctor (Bullard), Callie Sellman (Frankston), Greenlee Gowin (Jacksonville) and Caitlin Abanto (Tyler) make up TEG’s Level 8 team and all posted personal bests and/or firsts at State. This had to have been the case as only the top 9 All Around places advanced. Level 8 is only two steps under Level 10 which is where colleges scout out future team members; you bet these girls are on their way to being future college competitors.

Meanwhile, TEG’s Level 6 team was in Houston at the famed, World Champions Centre; Simone Biles home gym, competing in their State Competition. Again, all of these athletes performed every bit of improvement and perfection they had been striving for in the gym weeks prior. The judges rewarded them with high scores and high placements; Morgan Hamby came home the Level 6 Vault, and Lindy Sheffield and Madison Rojo placed 6th on Balance Beam out of the whole state of Texas!

Texas East Gymnastics Makes State Champions

While most kids were on vacation and sleeping in last week, the team at Texas East Gymnastics was hard at work. And just like the saying, “hard work pays off” ----it did for team TEG! The TEG team had 100% qualification from their Level 9 and 10 teams to their Regional Championships in Denver, Colorado as well as State Championship winners!

Drew Watson (Tyler) is now the Level 10 All Around Champion as well as the Vault state champion and teammate Steelie King, Level 9 from Longview is also the Vault state champion. Gymnastics is a unique sport in that it includes several disciplines in one; the powerful leg events of floor tumbling and vault as well as the acrobatic swinging stunts on the uneven bars and of course the perilous 4 inch wide balancing act on the balance beam. Gymnasts need to be powerful yet graceful, they need to perform feats that require tremendous intensity and accuracy all while appearing to be putting forth no effort!

The Level 7 team also competed in their state championship meet over spring break. Gymnasts had to be in the very top of their age group to move onto their Regional Championships in New Mexico. Abby Cooper (Lindale), Brylie Chamness (Van) and Lovie Gandy (Tyler) all did just that and will spending Easter weekend in Albuquerque. Along with teammate Brooklyn Holik (Bullard) these young athletes accomplished numerous personal bests and have a bright future.

Team TEG puts in 20-26 hours a week perfecting big skills and little skills all for the fun of it! Most will go on and secure full 4 year scholarships to colleges but in the mean time they just get a kick out of flipping around the gym!

Rose City Classic

Texas East Gymnast Scores Perfect 10.0!

Texas East Gymnastics’ optional teams are off to a great 2017 season. Optional gymnasts from level 6-10 have begun their competitive season with the meets at Texas Prime, Classic Rock Invitational in Arizona and the WOGA Classic in Frisco. Each time scores have risen across the board showing that hard work and attention to detail truly does pay off; even in a sport where winners are decided by the thousandths of a point!

Drew Watson can attest to persistence and perseverance paying off. She competed a Yurchenko vault layed out with a one and a half twist and scored a perfect 10.0 on it!! Coaches Martin and Stacy Parsley were happy the judges awarded it, knowing themselves how dynamic and large Drew performs the vault! Drew said, “I knew it was a good vault but I was still surprised to actually get a 10.0---that doesn’t really happen so it was super cool!”

Drew’s teammates also had outstanding performances; Steelie King won 2nd on vault as a level 9; Macy Parsley won 2nd on bars plus 3rd on floor and the all-around as a level 9, Christian Wright won balance beam as a level 9, Libby Thornbourgh was the vault champion in her age division at Level 8, and Morgan Hamby won the balance beam as a level 6.

Texas East Gymnastics will compete in their own competition next. They are hosting the 11th annual Rose City Classic March 3-5. All the girls are excited to have some home town love and hopefully pack the stands with friends and family. The Oil Palace won’t be the same after 550 female gymnasts tumble and twist their way around it!

Team Talk February 2017

As the seasons change outside so do the girls going to competitions inside! December serves as the end of a calendar year as well as the end of the compulsory season and beginning of the optional season here at Texas East Gymnastics. Our 20 level 6-elite girls have worked hard in the off season and are now into the heart of their competitions. They have competed in the Texas Prime, The Classic Rock Invitational in Arizona and the WOGA Classic in Frisco. Across the board TEG gymnasts are continuing to improve form and execution and seeing better and better scores from the judges.

The next competition is right here at home; TEG is hosting the 11th annual Rose City Classic. The meet will be at the Oil Palace March 3-5 with the biggest tricks being performed by the level 9’s and 10’s Saturday night at 5pm.

The TEG Booster Club has partnered with the Special Olympic chapter here in East Texas and will be donating a portion of the proceeds raised at the Rose City Classic to those local athletes! Good luck to all the athletes.

Texas East Gymnastics “Vaults” Over the Competition

Pearland, Texas and Reflex Gymnastics were host to the Spring Challenge on February 26, 2016. Local east Texas gymnasts from TEG made the long haul to south Houston and came home with a big haul of hardware!

Friday night the Level 10 gymnasts; Drew Watson, Sarah Shaffer and Danica Abanto vaulted over their competition and swept the awards stand taking Gold, Silver and Bronze with enormous scores of 9.95, 9.7 and 9.55. Level 9 teammate Macy Dai Parsley received 3rd place on Bars, 2nd place on Beam, 3rd place on Floor and 3rd place in the All Around for her outstanding performances. Macy said, “I was so happy with my performances because each one of them accomplished a personal best goal for me, not necessarily reflected in my score but more of how I did my routines; then my awards places were pretty high so it was really fun!” Macy’s teammate Christian Wright, Level 8, was able to compete in the All Around for the first time since recovering from an injury and thus earned her qualifying score to her State Championships.

On Saturday TEG’s level 7 team opened the competition on beam and blazed through the events placing the team on the 2nd place awards stand in the team finals. Reese Roberts won the gold medal in the All Around for her age group, Lexie Dziedic won gold on Vault, Samantha Proctor won gold on Beam, Libby Thornbourgh placed 4th on Floor and Callie Sellman placed 3rd on Vault. This Level 7 team will continue their hard work for State and do their best to qualify on to Regionals in Little Rock, AK.

The Level 6 team brought the competition weekend to a close with its 2nd place team finish. Kaitlin Abanto competed four consistent routines and earned herself the All Around championship with teammates Lindy Sheffield, Abby Cooper, Greenlee Gowin and Morgan Hamby all helping themselves to 2nd place finishes on favorite events. “The whole team contributed to the win and I am so proud of their hard work day to day and happy for them to see the results in competition” said Coach Damone Feldman.

Texas East Gymnastics Rolls “Snake Eyes” in Vegas

Sin City was host to over 2,500 gymnasts February 12-14 for the Brestyan’s 2016 Las Vegas Gymnastics Invitational.  Gymnasts of all ages and levels from around the US plus Great Britain were “betting” on gold medal performances!

Texas East Gymnastics took all their Optional team girls plus their Elite, Hannah Hagle.  The competition was of normal caliber for all competitors except the Elite athletes.  They were there to gain the All Around qualifying score to promote them into their championships at the end of the season.  TEG’s Hannah Hagle, 11 years old from Cherino, was debuting as a Hopes level Elite and performed well enough in both the compulsory day of competitions and the optional day to earn her qualifying score.  TEG Coaches Martin and Stacy Parsley said, “Hannah is an amazing person, she has set some pretty large goals for herself and works towards them with every turn she takes; the pressure was pretty high for her this weekend, mostly put on by herself, but she was able to keep control and show eight routines that were close to her best, we are so proud of her.”

Alongside Hannah but in another competition gym were her Level 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 teammates.  Coach Parsley says, “at TEG we teach our athletes that success is defined by much, more than medals” so while not every athlete brought home a 1st place medal from Las Vegas many personal goals were satisfied and/or accomplished.  “The gymnastics season is several months long and a gymnastics career is a marathon not a sprint so we are always excited for victory, large or small.”

We are proud to announce that the Level 2 women’s team has successfully completed their season. They finished with lots of highs. Fantastic job ladies! Level 3s have one more meet. Those ladies compete down in Austin at the North State Meet. Confident and excited are just a couple words to describe these girls. Texas East’s level 4 ladies team will be in Dallas, Texas for the Level 4 North State Meet. Good Luck girls!!
